Nivo is a young woman, 26 years old, married and has 3 children. She lives in Masaimana village in Ambohimana neighbourhood, Vohitsaoka rural municipality, Ambalavao district. Her family used to be vulnerable, having to borrow money in the lean period before rice harvest. This changed after she was nominated to be the youth leader, and she joined the village Self-help group “Soafianatse” with support from the “Breakthrough Communities Project” funded by Innocent Foundation.

She has been satisfied with the result from applying the new agricultural techniques learnt during their training received as a youth leader.
“It was my first time to plant rain-fed rice seed but I was amazed at the result – one cup produced 400 cups or 80 kilos of rice paddy”.
Nivo, Masaimana Vohitsaoka
She has been a member of the self-help group for 2 years now and has used money borrowed from their Savings & Loan service to expand her farming. She is proud to now be the vegetable provider for Masaimana Primary School’s canteen.
