The workshop for the SAHALA project « Protection of the tapia forest of Ambatofinandrahana and the development of the wild silk sector » was carried out in Ambatofinandrahana with the participation of Amoron ‘i Mania regional and local authorities with the members of 10 local communities. Student researchers from the University of Antananarivo working on the repopulation of Landibe(wild silkworm) in the tapia forest also participated in this workshop.
The objective of this workshop focused on the activity assessments carried out by local communities as well as the strategy to be adopted in order to improve the wild silk sector and the tapia forest restoration.
The third day was dedicated to Ambatofinandrahana Tapia forest restoration campaign held in Andrahalana. Tapia seedlings have been planted to restore the tapia forest and develop the wild silk sector, which are closely linked. The restoration in Andrahalana is just the beginning but each community will carry out the transplantaion in their respective forest.
The Regional Director of Environment and Sustainable Development in Amoron’i Mania raised awareness the kids from Andrahalana primary school about the importance of the tapia forest and the Landibe(wild silkworm).
